🚨Web3Gaming Scam Alert🚨: Metaisland Cloned by MystIsland
Immediately after finishing an article unmasking the unscrupulous maneuvers employed by Web3Gaming fraudsters, I was promptly contacted by a swindler who, quite ironically, sought my services in composing an article to endorse a Web3Game.

So let’s see what these scammers are trying to get me to “play”,

They provided me with the Gitbook site, where they conveniently listed their latest social accounts that they are promoting.
Web-Search:
However, now that we know the name of the project, a quick search brings us back the following:

But of course it's a game, so I wanted to check out their website, that was not much fun because it no longer works.
They went right down the list, however the old website was flagged as being a scam. So that explains why they are not using it anymore, along with shortening their project name.
So this isn't very helpful for them. These are actually the top pages (as you have already seen) that countless people are discovering about this website. There's a multitude of them! Currently, they are solely relying on Gitbook, thus they are strategically positioning it as a promising project.

Game Download:
I downloaded these games and checked against the world's largest repository of malware and malicious code. Here is what the analysis tells me, for those techies that are curious. For those non-techies, skip to the bottom for my wrap-up on these downloads.
Windows:
It also contains hard coded URLs, shortened URLs, and bitcoin addresses. In addition, it constantly monitors your keyboard, captures images, and copies the clipboard. It cleverly evades cybersecurity tools, such as antivirus programs, and easily detects the presence of virtual environments.
MITRE ATT&CK Framework:
The more things that show up on here, the more devious the software. It's designed to be sticky and hang around for a long time. Combine all of this together and it's a very clear RED FLAG! While it wasn’t directly flagged as malware, it has all the traits of a malware.
MacOS:
Their MacOS game download is straight up verified as a malicious file: Trojan.AMOS, a very popular threat vector against MacOS users. This just makes the Windows version even more obvious as a threat, even though it was not directly flagged by detection systems.
Social Media View:
However, they did the normal run on social channels as you can see below:
TIKTOK:
Instagram:
Not following anyone, seems strange.
YouTube:
Classic Youtube, they upload 5 videos at once and move on.
Facebook:
They created just enough activity, but once you look at things longer you will realize its mass generated.
Telegram:
They made Telegram an announcement page, so that they can use bots to create the illusion of interaction from the 2,900 subscribers. Some are probably real too.
Twitch:
No streams, no videos, but somehow they have 274 followers?
Summary:
The team is tracking this scammer and others as well. They look at them as built in marketing and appreciate their efforts. However, as for the average players and investors, it is crucial for us to remain vigilant and exercise caution when it comes to new games that attempt to persuade us into downloading their software.
- Take your time: beta testing isn’t going anywhere.
- Scan all downloads before installing. I would try scanning them all, Win/MacOS…
- Have up-to-date antivirus software
I would take this a step further, as in this example their Windows version was not flagged as malware while their MacOS was. The Windows version may have had similar capabilities to a Trojan, but its signature was changed. This is where you need more than just antivirus software. To protect your system and digital life effectively you should be implementing a Zero-Trust mindset and solution that guarantees to block any harmful files, whether known or unknown. We are all human, and we need a system to protect us when our guard is down.
